What kind of things could I use as a collector like the big flaps on the milk bottle that collect the rain, that you can find around your house?

No, let it stay. Great inspiration for DIY hobbyists who care about water consumption and sustainability. This video gave some ideas on how to make my own system.

@josephdupont The upside down umbrella was original inspiration and we tried it. But there were too many moving parts for mass production and it would also have to made out of expensive wood to avoid rust. Another issue was we needed a standard fitting on it so that you could put it into whatever tank or barrel the user might have. The standard fitting also enables more than one collector per barrel.

@Sylvia441 We work with any water storage. See our Photo gallery at our website. We've installed into Barrels, Tanks, Buckets, Totes, Trash Cans. You just need a 2" bulkhead fitting available at most irrigation supply stores. Some of our retailers also sell them.

What a great project, thank you for sharing your results. We all have an opportunity to recognize that we are facing the same problems with clean water as our neighbors to the south as infrastructure aging and population growth put our resources in stress.

@carlostoriello The trial participants said they would pay $15-$25 per RainSaucer so that is our long run goal. We believe that pricing is achievable once we have local manufacturing with locally sourced materials.
